B.Sc. Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technology

B.Sc. operation theatre and Anaesthesia Technology course is all about managing the records of a patient and to identify every detail of an operation theatre including the disinfection and sterilization along with taking care of all the surgical instruments. The students understand the concepts of operation theatre, surgical procedures and anaesthesia techniques so that they can assist surgeons and anaesthesiologists to be a part of the team in the operation theatres. They get trained in monitoring of patients in the  pre, intra and post-operative care, assessment patient and in preparation of the anaesthesia workstations, drugs and operation theatres, equipment and instrument., They learn to assist in various anaesthesia techniques like regional anaesthesia, general anaesthesia, anaesthesia under imaging guidance, assisting in surgeries, procedures maintenance of operation theatres. They also participate in quality control programmes.

The courses of the programme are:

Introduction to Anaesthesia and operation theatre Technology, Patient care & basic nursing before and after OT procedure, Aseptic precautions in patient care, Clinical pharmacology by knowing the different types of drugs and loading of drugs, Basics of Medical Disorders and Anaesthesia for patients with Medical disorders, Assistance in anaesthetic procedures, Advanced surgical nursing, Regional Anaesthesia Techniques, Post Anaesthesia care unit, Anaesthesia for specialty surgeries, Basic intensive care, Exposure to “digital monitors” operation and monitoring of patients during the procedures by using various digital monitors. Exposure to C-arm technology for orthopaedic procedures, Hands on training and Mannequin usage for Phlebotomy, IV insertions ECG reading along with basic sciences like Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology and Pharmacology

Eligibility for admission:

  • A candidate seeking admission to the B.Sc. Anaesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology shall have studied English as one of the principal subject during the tenure of the course and shall have passed:
  • Two year Pre-University examination or equivalent as recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences with, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as subjects of study.

OR

  • Pre-Degree course from a recognized University considered as equivalent by RGUHS, (Two years after ten years of schooling) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as subjects of study.

OR

  • Any equivalent examination recognized by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore for the above purpose with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as subjects of study.

OR

  • The vocational higher secondary education course conducted by Vocational Higher Secondary Education, Government of Kerala with five subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in addition to vocational subjects conducted is considered equivalent to plus TWO examinations of Government of Karnataka Pre University Course.

OR

  • Candidates with two years diploma from a recognized Government Board in Anaesthesia Technology or Operation Theatre technology shall have passed class 12 [10+2] with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, as subjects or candidates with 3 years diploma from a recognized Government Board in Anaesthesia Technology or Operation Theatre technology should have studied Physics, Biology and Chemistry as subjects during the tenure of the course.
  • Lateral entry to second year of B.Sc. Anaesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology for candidates who have passed diploma program from the Government Boards and recognized by RGUHS.

Note:

  • The candidate shall have passed individually in each of the subjects.
  • Candidates who have completed diploma or vocational course through Correspondence shall not be eligible for the above course.

Duration of the course:

  • Duration shall be for a period of four years including one year of Internship.

Medium of instruction:

  • The medium of instruction and examination shall be in English.

Scheme of examination:

  • There shall be three examinations one each at the end of 1 st, 2nd and 3rd year
