World Breastfeeding Week 2020 “Support breastfeeding for a healthier planet”

The Departments of Community Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Paediatrics of K. V. G. Medical College & Hospital along with K. V. G. Institute of Nursing Sciences, organized an awareness programme to commemorate ‘World Breastfeeding Week’ on 7th August 2020.

The programme commenced with an invocation song by nursing internees and lighting of the lamp by Dr. K.V. Chidananda, Medical Director, KVGMCH and Dr. Neelambikai Natrajan, Dean KVGMCH and other dignitaries.

The presidential address was delivered by Dr. K. V. Chidananda. He shared his experiences related to maternal and child health care making the audience appreciate the difference in the situation over a period of 40 years.

Dr. Neelambikai Natrajan,   addreesed the gathering emphasiing the significance of celebrating the world breast feeding week and the common problems encountered by mothers.

 Dr.Nagarajachari A Professor & HOD, Community Medicine emphasised on the environmental effects due to breastfeeding and breast milk substitutes. The challenges and the solutions for effectively improving the indicators related to breastfeeding was also explained to the gathering. Dr. Gettha Doppa Prof and HOD, OBG who emphasized on good antenatal and postnatal care of the mother in terms of nutrition, sleep, relaxed mind, and knowledge regarding proper technique as a prerequisite for breastfeeding. Dr.Niveditha Reddy from Paediatrics elaborated on breastfeeding and associated concerns related to Covid 19.  Mrs Prema  BM principal KVG institute of Nursing sciences explained the role of nurses in identifying and teaching the mothers skills related to breastfeeding.    

 Dr. Shashikala N, Assistant Professor, community medicine welcomed and gave vote of thanks in the programme.  The program was attended by teaching faculty of KVGMCH, Nursing Institute and KVGAMC along with postgraduate and interns of KVGMCH.
